Because of this, we are refocusing our efforts to provide the most impact and benefit to all our global learning experiences.Īs part of this transition, the Skype in the Classroom website will no longer be supported after December 18, 2020. After this date, Skype in the Classroom profiles, activities and calendars will no longer be available. Please download and save any content you would like to preserve. We want to ensure that we continue to invest in solutions that you and all our community members are using the most. This year, we have seen tremendous growth in the connections made on Microsoft Teams and Flipgrid. We have been in awe of the empathy, awareness, and compassion that you have been able to instill through the connections that you have made. Together, we have been able to connect students from over 120 countries. The Skype in the Classroom team has been honored to be part of the ongoing innovation and evolution of our global community of educators and content partners. I will be sharing more here in the weeks to come. There are still many ways to connect with other educators online. Since I just received this letter from Microsoft I thought I’d share it here. I have also included some info about this in my new book.
WHAT HAPPENED TO SKYPE PATCH
When you schedule this policy as desired, you can create a message to inform your users that Skype updates only occur outside of the use of the application and therefore it is possible the patch could occur upon restarting the device.I have previously written about Skype in the classroom and that it is a smart and easy way to connect for teachers. You can set up a Patch Only policy, filter for the appropriate patch, and schedule it to be applied outside of working hours.
WHAT HAPPENED TO SKYPE UPDATE
Your workflow and use of Skype will determine how you schedule the update and how you notify users. You can decide to patch Skype with a separate policy that focuses on the patch schedule. Additionally, you can navigate to the Overview Report and it will reflect the pending patch in the list of Available Patches.
WHAT HAPPENED TO SKYPE UPGRADE
We encourage customers to begin the upgrade to Microsoft Teams, the hub for teamwork in Microsoft 365. From the Bulk Actions menu, select Patch Now. Skype for Business Online is retiring on July 31, 2021, at which time access to the service will end. If you are not using the Skype application, from here you can decide to immediately apply the patch. The patch for Skype will show as Update Available.
WHAT HAPPENED TO SKYPE SOFTWARE
You can also view scheduled patches from the Software section of the Device Details page. Patching Skype from the Device Details page If you are not using the application, you can immediately patch by clicking Actions > Patch Now. When a version of Skype listed has a patch available, it will list a number under Impacted Devices. To view a scheduled patch, you can go to the Software Page and search for Skype. Because updates to the Skype application require a restart, the operation can only be successful when Skype is closed and does not appear in the system tray. The patch will be updated the next time the policy runs if the application is not in use.
Automox will show that a patch is available pending. You might see that a patch for Skype will fail if the application is being used during the patch window for Skype. The Skype application will only be patched when it is not in use.
